Different workshops:
Anti-doping
The aim here is to teach the young people about the effects of drugs in sport and the consequences of ther actions. This is one of the main objectives of UNESCO’s involvement in the tournament. In partnership with the WADA (World Agency of Anti-Doping) organization, a workshop will be held in the UNESCO village during the event, which will offer young people the chance to reflect on their conception of sport ; the values of solidarity, fair-play and tolerance.
Sustainable Development
The aim here is to integrate the principals, values and practices of sustainable development in to the different stages of education; a major goal of UNESCO. Here, young people will be made aware of their actions; especially in relation to their consumerism and the repercussions it can have on biodiversity, the environment and their way of living.
The life’s Tree
The aim is to create a space for reflection on one’s attitude to sport and citizenship values. Every participant in the competition will be given a piece of paper to write their name, to add their photo and to write a small paragraph on their hopes. This piece of paper will be stuck to the UNESCO Tree. This act will serve to create the branches and the leaves of the UNESCO Tree; a tree of hope for the future of humanity.
World Heritage
Inextricably linked to the theme of sustainable development, the subject of this stage along the pathway is World Heritage and its conservation. The aim is to make young people aware of the role of the World Heritage Convention signed into 1972. The convention recognizes that every individual interacts with nature and affirms the need to preserve the balance between human beings and the natural resources that surround them. The convention also outlines the responsibilities of the signatory states, in terms of the preservation and designation of potential heritage sites for the World Heritage List.
Human Rights
On this, the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, young people will, join with experts from UNESCO to, participate in a debate on human rights.
A Champion’s Attitude...
What does this mean to you?
« Winning at all costs or the price of winning » A true or false quiz will be offered to the young people, in order, to allow them to reflect on their attitude on and off the sports field or tennis court.
Intercultural Dialogue;
Passport to the World Dialogue
Intercultural dialogue will be the key theme of the UNESCO village. It will allow the young players from all backgrounds, to get to know one another and to remain in touch long ter the competition is over. It will also permit them to realize that culture diversity is a driving force to development, economic growth and a way to lead a more ethical and intellectual life. Thanks to the “Passport to the World” stage, the young people will create friendships among themselves. This will be done via the passport system; they will add their photos and their e-mail addresses on a map of the world, where they will be able to t race a line to a town or a region, where they would like to become friends with someone from that place.
